We are currently representing a civil engineering firm actively seeking a skilled Project Accountant to support project teams with billing, compliance, and financial tracking. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with experience supporting New York City agency projects and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure smooth financial operations. The position is based in the Edison, NJ area and offers long-term stability and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide project accounting support including processing billings for NYC government agencies
• Manage project-related accounts receivable and subcontractor invoicing
• Collaborate with project managers and clients to review budgets, contracts, and monthly billing
• Review, process, and track large volumes of invoices to ensure timely billing and compliance with contract terms
• Maintain project documentation including contracts, signed proposals, POs, and change orders
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies with clients and vendors
• Monitor invoice limits to ensure compliance with contract values
• Communicate project status and financial updates to senior accounting staff
• Support additional accounting functions as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
• Experience working with civil engineering firms and NYC government agencies required
• Familiarity with Deltek Ajera preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe PDF
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and multitasking abilities
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating with cross-functional teams
