About Durham Sculpture

The Durham Sculpture Project, a project IN, FOR and BY Durham to CREATE a MONUMENTAL sculpture and DONATE the piece to the City of Durham for public display downtown Durham: a landmark of a sculpture is coming to town. A major stepping-stone has already been reached: the project has gained the endorsement and fiscal sponsorship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, a highly recognized 501(c)3 non-for-profit, which means that donations to this project are 100% tax deductible. The large sculpture (30ft+), designed by Durham artist John Wendelbo, is to be built in downtown Durham (NC) and subsequently donated to the City of Durham. The project serves multiple purposes: - to promote and build upon existing efforts to revitalize the downtown area of the City of Durham - to provide 4-6 full time jobs for skilled artisans to work in a downtown location for roughly 8-12 months, the time it will take to fabricate this piece. - to stamp the downtown urban landscape with a new landmark sculp
