The Human Resources Manager, Legal Practice Groups manages policies, HR practices, and process improvement initiatives in support of practice group leadership. Through effective collaboration with key stakeholders, the Human Resources Manager promotes a culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, and goal attainment. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for implementing people related services, policies, and programs. This position works under minimal supervision and relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain relationships with practice group leadership, offering coaching, guidance, and training support
- Support firmwide initiatives aimed at fostering an engaged and high-performing workforce with guidance of practice group leadership
- Recognize potential legal issues (e.g. sexual harassment, discrimination, termination) and consult with appropriate resources for direction and guidance
- Lead onboarding processes and host new hire orientations for attorneys and other timekeepers
- Coordinate with program leadership to manage all HR aspects of the Summer and Fall Associate programs
- Oversee departure processes for attorneys and other timekeepers
- Support firmwide performance management processes for attorneys and other timekeepers
- Manage attorney processes such as transfers, visas, secondments, and reduced time arrangements
- Provide guidance on leave of absence policies and administration to ensure compliance with FMLA, ADA, state and local ordinances, and Firm policies and procedures
- Research federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, and compare internal policies and practices to ensure compliance
Job Specifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- At least five (5) years of related work experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build relationships, collaborate, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information, and apply sound judgment in all situations
