Network Engineer Job Description Sample

Network engineers work on installation and maintenance of communication networks like Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Extranets and Intranets to ensure that they are in the optimal performance zone. Common roles of a Network Engineer include network analysis, consulting, engineering and management. 

Education Requirements for Becoming a Network Engineer 

You must have at least an UG degree in a related field like engineering, computers science, IT or something similar. These days, companies prefer having Network Engineers with a relevant MBA on board. Of course, your experience in IT or as a Network Administrator helps in getting higher salaries. 

Duties and responsibilities of a Network Engineer 

  • Installing latest software and hardware according to the existing requirements
  • Implementing access control by getting user accounts and permissions in place
  • To make sure only authorized users are given access to resources on the network
  • Plan maintenance and upgrades
  • Offer technical support for issues like network connectivity
  • Offer training on new systems and features
  • Plan and execute network upgrades
