Breakthrough’s program combines individualized case management with extended learning time over ten-plus years of direct service, helping its students to become first generation college graduates. Beginning in middle school, Breakthrough addresses fundamental gaps in students’ skills and resources by providing academic enrichment, mentoring, family involvement, leadership and service, test preparation, and clear information on navigating school bureaucracy, financial aid, and the college admissions process. In 2013, Breakthrough serves more than 750 students in grades 6-12, including its first six classes of high school graduates.
