Teacher Job Description

The Instructor’s primary responsibilities will consist of assessing each child’s academic level based on the program curriculum and design an individualized program of instruction for each student. The Instructor must have a reasonable number of youth to work with (1 instructor to 15 or 20 participants)

Responsibilities:

  • Develop individual lesson plans based on the program curriculum.
  • Assess the academic skills of each child.
  • Maintain daily attendance reports and report any disciplinary incidents.
  • Define the individualized academic progress for each student and seek additional staff support for the students that need it.
  • Prepare children for kindergarten by introducing concepts they will explore further in kindergarten and elementary school.
  • Use ESL Instructional methods and bilingual materials as applicable.
  • Implement discipline management techniques developed on the district’s discipline management plan.
  • Encourage good student discipline by being in regular attendance and on time, being prepared to perform teaching duties with appropriate preparation, assignments, and resource material.
  • Respect other individuals and property, and display professional conduct in a manner in accordance with the Texas Code of Ethics.
  • Comply with school and agency policies, rules, regulations and directives
  • Maintain an orderly classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Establish rapport and an effective working relationship with parents, students and other staff members
  • Teach students to strive toward self-discipline.
  • Encourage work habits that will lead to the accomplishment of both short-term and long-term goals
  • Serve as a role model for your students, in accordance with the Texas Code of Ethics.
  • Communicate with parents regarding pupil progress, behavior, and attendance.
  • Inform director of potential problems.
  • Work with children in groups or one on one, depending on the needs of children and the subject matter.
  • Plan and carry out a curriculum that targets different areas of child development, such as language, motor, and social skills.
  • Organize activities so children can learn about the world, explore interests, and develop talents.
  • Develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime.
  • Watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and bring problems to the attention of parents.
  • Keep records of the students’ progress, routines, and interests, and keep parents informed about their child’s development

Specific Skills:

  • Pre-Kinder teachers need good communication skills to tell parents and colleagues about students’ progress. 
  • Pre-Kinder teachers must plan lessons that engage young students. In addition, they need to adapt their lessons to suit different learning styles.
  • Interpersonal skills. Pre-Kinder teachers must understand children’s emotional needs and be able to develop good relationships with parents, children, and colleagues.
  • Organizational skills. Pre-Kinder teachers need to be organized to plan lessons and keep records of their students.
  • Working with children can be frustrating, and pre-kinder teachers should be able to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
  • Physical stamina. Working with children can be physically taxing, so pre-kinder teachers should have a lot of energy.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • State Certified with a degree in elementary or secondary education, bilingual education, or ESL certified, or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • Experience in teaching bilingual students preferred.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
