he Finance Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day finance, payroll, and administrative functions. This position is responsible for the ongoing management and sustainability of the organizational fiscal operations, and ensures the impact of our programs by managing a high-performance workplace, including collaborating with staff to achieve ambitious goals. The person in this position will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the program staff, and fund development staff; and manage relationships with financial advisors, banks, and the audit firm. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all day-day payroll operations
- Ensure the accuracy of the calculation of wages, tax withholding, and deductions associated with payroll and/or benefits
- Assist with the administration of company benefit plans and open enrollment
- Prepare payroll reports on a regular basis for management
- Respond to various employee inquiries and requests regarding payroll matters
- Enter all payroll related entries in the general ledger
- Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Audit
- Maintains accounting records on GAAP basis and prepares monthly financial reports
- Processes all payments and tracks/documents all fiscal documentation including invoices, expense receipts, contracts, and all items necessary for an organizational audit
- AR and AP - manage and process all incoming and outgoing invoices
- Serves as primary contact for external auditors and coordinates annual audit
- Track and monitor restricted grant funds
- Stays current with accounting standards and technology
- Prepare and post various general ledger entries
- Reconcile general ledger accounts
- Assist with monthly and yearly financial close
- Ensure that financial reports are prepared and distributed on a timely basis
Budgeting and Grants Management:
- Assists with developing and tracking organizational, project and staff budgets
- Consults with program staff to monitor all project and grant budgets against organizational budget
- Track all grant funds and documentation
- Working with Development, create grant program budgets for grant seeking and reporting
- Issues and records all outgoing grant payments
General:
- Contributes actively to the overall effectiveness of the organization
- Participates in efforts to examine and advance the work of the organization
- Leads and participates in efforts to improve the general administrative and programmatic operations of the organization
- Identifies and communicates to leadership issues of concern or importance to the operation or work of the organization
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
- Strong, demonstrated commitment to the vision, mission, and core values of The Gathering for Justice
- 5+ years of experience in financial management and accounting experience including relevant, progressive work experience in a nonprofit or philanthropic foundation setting and demonstrated knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit accounting
- Experience with grants management and compliance, including grant budgeting and reporting - strongly preferred
- Experience with finance and accounting software packages and integrations, ie bank feeds, Bill.com, Divvy, and similar
- Must have 5+ years of experience with QuickBooks Online
- Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion pertaining to the work environment
- Excellent analytic and abstract reasoning, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and to be flexible in changing work priorities
- Experience managing a high volume of work with efficiency, asks for help and clarification when needed
- Able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality
- Self-starter who demonstrates the highest standards of integrity
- Payroll processing experience is required; with ADP Total Source preferred.
