Financial Close Accounting Assistant Jobs in RailWorks Corporation Houston, TX

Responsible for assisting the Controller with financial close activities and various duties in support of the Track Services Accounting and Finance function. The position will work to ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting transactions and information

Responsibilities:

• Assist with Month-end closing activities including journal entries, month-end accruals, GL balance and Sub-ledger verifications and account analysis
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations and bank reconciliations
• Purchase Card (P-card) accounting, analysis and reconciliations
• Prepare daily bank lockbox receipt reports and monitor AR collections with Services offices
• Process weekly Equipment Utilization, journal entries, research, reconciliation and reporting
• Assist with reconciliation of Intercompany billings and Intercompany Accounts Payable transactions
• Assist and interact with Office Managers in support of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
• Assist the Controller in the preparation and submittal of the monthly Financial Package for Management
• Provides administrative support and participates in other activities and special projects as needed
• Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
• Assist with preparation of contractor pre-qualifications for various agencies
• Assist the Controller in review and implementation of new systems and processes as needed
• Frequently sits for long periods of time
• Frequently speaks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or related field with experience in a corporate accounting setting
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience related to the accounting field
• Experience working in ERP Systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of general ledger functions, accounts payable, account receivable and inventory ledger systems and procedures
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands/requests within given time constraints
• Strong analysis and problem-solving skills; detail oriented
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner
• Ability to work in a high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
