The Payroll Manager ensures the company’s payroll work streams are optimal and efficient. Oversees timely and accurate data collection and calculation, system uploads, issuance of weekly paychecks and electronic transfers.
Payroll Duties/Responsibilities:
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including, employees hourly rates, salaries, bonuses, compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Ensures proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records and reports in case of audits.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Processes certified payrolls if required by job contracts.
- Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing systems and procedures.
- Completes tasks as directed by a supervisor within reason.
HR Duties/Responsibilities:
- E-Verify
- Onboarding/Offboarding
- Unemployment & DOL, FMLA, disability & union correspondence & audits
- ACA Reporting
- Manage health benefits - yearly census, enrollment, termination, set up deductions, Cobra , monthly invoices
- Accounts payable contact for unions
- 401k enrollments, loans, distributions, payments, yearly census & audits
- Accrual & track vacation & sick/personal time
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience preferred in Sage 300 CRE software.
- Thorough understanding of union rates, dues and reporting.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, with one year of experience in an accounting office;
- three or four years of accounting experience with at least two years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
