Staff Tax Accountant Job Description
About Us:
We are a growing, full-service CPA firm based in Jersey City, NJ, serving a diverse range of individual and business clients. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Tax Accountant to join our team in a full-time, in-office role.
Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns and financial information, applying relevant tax laws, and ensuring all work is completed accurately and on schedule. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is a proactive, client-focused attitude.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations
- Prepare and review payroll tax returns and filings
- Conduct general client accounting including write-ups, payroll processing, and sales tax filings
- Compile and organize supporting financial statements and documentation
- Communicate effectively with clients to gather information and resolve inquiries
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure high-quality client service
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of recent experience in public accounting and tax preparation
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
