Changing Jobseeker Trends – Salary is no longer the deciding factor!

Talent Trends 2015 was a research by LinkedIn, unarguably the largest professional network in the world, to debug the mindset of a modern-day job seeker. Even a few years back, salary hike was the prime motivation for an employee to switch firms. This has drastically changed and it is safe to say that employees are no longer motivated just by salary alone!

The study found the following factors influencing job seekers before they take up the opportunity:

  • 15% of job seekers were not satisfied with their current job role
  • 21% were not happy with their work-life balance
  • 26% of applicants were keen on career progress and development

Compared to these numbers, the 14% who just wanted a salary hike seems insignificant. The most intriguing number amongst all is the fact that 93% of employees feel valued only if there is a notable career development in the organization.

For recruiters who are looking to hire employees for the longer run, offering an attractive package is not enough and instead you need to be a 'skill hunter' who can not only identify but also reward the employee with the right identification. This can be justified by the fact that 2/3rd of employees opted for an employer who identified their skills over an employer who gave them a bigger package for the same roles they handle.

Recruitment has evolved and to ensure that your organization has the rightly skilled set of employees you will need a lot more than a higher employee budget. Hiring is a systematic process that charts out the long terms goals of your organization and ensures that every talent hired does not go to waste.

In short, employees are no long looking for a job that pays but are searching for the career that stays!
