About Wiki Education Foundation

The Wiki Education Foundation (WEF) is a new non-profit organization which supports innovative uses of and content creation for Wikipedia and related projects in communities of teaching, learning and inquiry by encouraging collaboration among Wikipedia editors, educators and researchers and students. The WEF's principal initiative is the U.S. and Canada Wikipedia Education Program ("the program"), which connects Wikipedia editors with professors interested in using Wikipedia in their classrooms. The program was started by the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) in 2010 and has since worked with 4,579 students, 168 educators, and nearly 300 Wikipedia volunteers to contribute more than 24,000 pages of content to Wikipedia. WEF is aligned more broadly with the open access movement and aims to encourage research into Wikipedia and its relationship with the movement.
