Web of Benefit assists survivors of domestic violence to become financially independent and break the intergenerational cycle of abuse by creating a step-by-step plan to reach their individual goals and rebuild their dreams. We accomplish this by awarding Self-Sufficiency Grants (SSGs) to fund the first step of this plan, with the requirement that each recipient “pay it forward” to three other survivors. Since our founding in 2004, Web of Benefit has awarded more than 1,515 grants to survivors of domestic violence in the Greater Boston and Chicago areas. Over the years, we have learned that recovery from domestic violence is a three step process: the first step is escaping to safety into a crisis shelter; the second step is building a level of stability in a transitional living program; the third step is attaining self-sufficiency.
