In 2006, the Vestry of Calvary Episcopal Church, N.L., now Calvary St. Augustine Episcopal Church, founded STEP-CDC in response to the pressing education, recovery and housing needs in the adjacent community. Beginning with its founding in 1864, Calvary Church has enjoyed a rich legacy of reaching out to the poor and the marginalized in its community. For years, Calvary has hosted numerous activities, such as feeding programs, Boy Scout troops, a Day-care Center, afterschool programs among a list of other community services. STEP~CDC has three streams of work. They are education, recovery and housing. The board created mission statements for each stream. Education Program: The Education Program provides school-aged children, in the Belmont community, with a safe environment as well as engaging educational opportunities afterschool and during the summer. It also offers training to adults in order to help them to become college and career-ready, thereby making them assets to their commun
