South Bay Union is the most southwesterly school district in the United States. The Pre-Kindergarten - 8 District serves a diverse population in Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, and south San Diego. In 2008, the South Bay Union School District community approved Proposition X, a school, classroom, safety, and repair measure that provides $59.4 million in funds to address the critical and urgent needs of schools. The bonds are completely modernizing schools by upgrading classrooms, restrooms, libraries, kitchens and technology, improving handicap accessibility and upgrading fire and life safety systems. In 2012, the bond was reauthorized through Proposition Y so that the urgent modernization needs of the District could continue to be met.
