OneWorld Roller Derby is a social network that is dedicated to offering scholarships to skaters and bringing exposure to roller derby leagues worldwide. OWRD has recently launched Seattle Roller Derby; Seattle's first recreational roller derby league for banked track and flat track skaters. SRD is teaching a roller derby class through the Seattle Parks and Recreation department,bringing us one step closer to our goal of mainstreaming the sport of derby and making it more accessible to the public. We are particularly interested in helping to bring about awareness of the impact that competitive sports and athletics (roller derby in particular) has on girls, women and self-esteem;. We're currently developing programs that we can bring to schools and communities that will foster team-building and self esteem for girls, and have been conducting research to show how the sport of roller derby impacts the participants in a way that is unique to any other sport available to women.
