SAFY names nationally- and internationally-recognized child welfare expert Richard R. Nedelkoff, M.S., J.D., as its third President and Chief Executive Officer. Nedelkoff brings the organization experience leading and growing national nonprofit youth service agencies as well as his ability to implement innovative programs which produce measurable results. SAFY is awarded a five year, $1.9 million annual contract from the South Carolina Department of Social Services to provide long-and short-term supportive services to at-risk youth and families across the state. The award, known as the Empowering Families program, marks the first collaboration of its kind in South Carolina and establishes SAFY as a prominent Lead Coordinating Agency, managing and partnering with other community- based organizations to reduce risk and enhance protective capacities within families.
