The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) casts the policy vision for smart growth throughout Maryland. The agency's work includes assisting Maryland's counties and municipalities in their land-use and water resource planning and providing local program review and technical assistance services. In addition MDP offers data, analysis and research assistance and policy development and implementation support to these local governments as well as communities, businesses and other organizations. As MDP monitors and forecasts changes in development and land use throughout the state, we create and produce products to assist in planning for Maryland's future. Information on demographic, socio-economic, political, cultural, geographic and land-use trends is collected, analyzed, and distributed in multiple formats. MDP supports interactive, web-based map display of census data, land-use, parcel data and aerial imagery to enhance and assist growth management and land-use planning decisions.
