Established in 1990 by Donald and Nancy Vasquez, they stored everything in their suburban Vacaville garage and set up tents with their kids and a hand full of employees that were part time. They kept growing their company by adding new tents and canopies to their inventory. Eventually they moved to Fairfield, California in 1997. By 2004 Made in the Shade had grown to around 15 employees. Soon they were adding more and more jobs in the Sacramento area as well as expanding in the SF Bay Area. By the winter of 2004 and early 2005 Made in the Shade moved to Sacramento and set up shop in West Sacramento.
