I started this brand in 2002 on a small kiosk at Bayshore Mall in Eureka, CA. I actually grew up in Pennsylvania, but after high school I headed west as I had always planned, and spent a few years traveling around in a VW van. I ended up in Humboldt County, w/ $50 to my name, and a mortgage on a fixer upper property outside of Mckinleyville. If I was going to be successful in this remote area, I knew I had to be creative. Luckily I grew up in a family business, and had been hustling everything from skateboards to carpet cleaner since I was 5 years old. After trying a few other ideas, I was determined to find something I truly enjoyed doing. There was no place for the locals here in Humboldt County to buy anything to represent where they were from, but I noticed they had Humboldt pride. Thats when I had a brilliant idea, I always had an interest in clothing, and art, growing up in the skateboard culture. I placed an order for $1000 worth of Humboldt Hoodies (borrowed off a credit card) and started selling them on a small kiosk at Bayshore Mall in Eureka, California. It all started with just one rack of embroidered Humboldt hoodies with a basic font, available in just a few different colors, but surprisingly the tourists passing through the area liked Humboldt Hoodies too. Thats when I knew I was onto something, but I could not do it alone. I hired my first employee, who is now my amazing husband. Soon after the logo was born, and trademarked, and the original Humboldt Clothing Company brand started to rise to the top, it outgrew the little kiosk quickly. I now have a 3000 sq ft store, still at Bayshore Mall in Eureka after all these years.
