GambiaRising provides opportunities to impoverished Gambians to better themselves through their own work - primarily through scholarships and financial assistance to Gambian students, mostly girls, who otherwise would not be able to stay in school. We work in all regions of the country, with all ages of students, without regard to religion, gender, or tribal background. Our only criteria are character and need, and the amount of difference that our support will make in their lives. For purposes of focus, most of the students we support are from the area around Fula Bantang, in lower Central River Region. In the current school year, 120 students are in school who would not otherwise be able to. All people working on the project volunteer their time and expenses, and the trustees donate sufficient funds to cover all administrative expenses, so 100% of all other public donations go directly to the support of the students.
