About Friends of The Seattle Public Library

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our Library as an essential institution of our society. Established in 1941, our volunteer members advocate for, educate about, and raise funds on behalf of The Seattle Public Library. From collecting books for underprivileged children in the 40s to supporting bookmobiles in the 70s to the popular "Raise a Reader" in the 90s to multilingual story times and Summer Reading Programs today, the Friends have been supporting our community. In addition to programs, the Friends have secured many materials and services that were beyond the Library budget. From equipment to books and movies, the friends have purchased materials the library could not. The Friends also finance staff training opportunities.
