Freedom School Partners delivers summer Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools to 1,600 children (called "scholars" in the program) in Charlotte, NC. Freedom Schools are literacy based enrichment programs that provide culturally relevant reading experiences through the teaching of college-student role models around the theme "I Can Make A Difference." Freedom School Partners collaborates with community organizations, faith groups, corporations and foundations to serve children at 25 sites across the city. Children are provided 6 weeks of programming in the summer, 8am - 3pm, at no cost including transportation, two healthy meals and a snack and enrichment experiences (think field trips, swimming, museums and career exploration.) FSP relies on donations to provide programs to children and the support of a collaborative volunteer base to serve children in the summer.
