In September 1947 a group of innovative parents, community leaders and dedicated volunteers gathered to create services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.Today, The Arc of Essex County is a private, non-profit agency serving people who live in and around Essex County. It is one of the most preeminent organizations of its kind in the tri-state region, providing resources to nearly 1500 individuals and their families in over 42 distinct services and programs at 35 locations through both traditional and self-directed options. Services include: Residential, Adult Day, and Children, Family and Community Services.
