Business Analysis is an art; one that requires fidelity to data processing and analysis and the urge to bring out more good from a given problem. As a Business Analyst, it is very hard to find the right opportunity. You get to dictate what the company is supposed to do but doing just that might not boost your resume enough to bag the next big job opportunity.

The following tips throw an insight on what could be your approach over traditional means to bag the next big change in your career path.

Keep it simple

Start by keeping it simple! Business Analysts tend to over think while shifting between jobs; you aren’t to be blamed since your mind is tuned it at work. However, BA is just yet another field with employers looking for talent. So do not go overboard while searching for an opportunity and keep the search simple and within acceptable terms even if you are indispensable to your current employer.

Provide a mock analysis of the intended employer

Do your job for the company even before attending the interview! The data available will be sparse but dig up whatever you can before the interview and do a mock analysis of what can be done better. Do not go on a fault finding mission for the existing model could be what your interviewer devised. Rather suggest changes that would have a positive effect.

Make sure you give your absolute best with the data available and not a half-baked solution. This could easily go either way since you are practically showing them what you are capable of even before the interview.

Make your resume talk

Your resume need not carry the insignificant points. Focus on the results more than your strengths and also throw light on the contacts you have earned in your previous stint. Networking is essential for a Business Analyst and show in your resume that you are capable of doing so. These contacts need not be the ones that you still hold but could be one time acquaintances too!

Keep an updated set of skills as the prominent part of your resume and make it shine. Any professional recommendations received can be mentioned too and if you have a LinkedIn profile make sure that you mention it on the resume (at least the soft copy). Get the recommendation from your network on the social profile. This adds a lot of credibility!

Business Analysts are indispensable to any organization but employers can be very choosy about whom they shortlist. Make sure your stand out with the above-mentioned points and bag the opportunity to change your career for the good.
