Cashier Job Description
About the Role
Tanishq is seeking a highly experienced and tech-savvy Cashier to join our team in Santa Clara. This position plays a critical role in managing the billing counter, reconciling daily collections, and ensuring accuracy in all transactions. The ideal candidate is meticulous, reliable, and extremely comfortable with modern POS systems, billing tools, and spreadsheets. This is a high-traffic environment that requires sharp attention to detail and a calm, professional demeanor.
Key Responsibilities
Cash & Transaction Management
- Process all customer payments accurately, including cash, credit, debit, gift cards, and promotional schemes.
- Perform end-of-day cash register reconciliation and ensure all collections match transaction reports.
- Prepare and submit daily financial reports to the Store Manager and corporate finance team
System & Software Proficiency
- Operate advanced POS systems, billing platforms, and card machines with ease.
- Use tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, and reconciliation software to manage reports and data tracking.
- Troubleshoot basic hardware/software issues and escalate technical problems when needed.
- Ensure product, pricing, and tax information is correctly mapped in the system.
Customer Interaction
- Provide courteous and efficient service at checkout, explaining invoices, taxes, and discounts clearly.
- Handle returns, refunds, and billing disputes professionally and escalate issues as required.
- Maintain a calm and friendly approach in a high-volume environment.
Reporting & Compliance
- Maintain organized records of all transactions, returns, and deposit slips for auditing.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, security measures, and company billing procedures.
- Assist with bank deposits, old gold purchases, and other sensitive financial transactions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a cashier in a high-traffic U.S. retail environment.
- Must have valid U.S. work authorization.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills & Attributes
- Very strong proficiency in systems, spreadsheets, and retail software.
- Tech-savvy, fast learner, and comfortable navigating multiple platforms.
- Excellent attention to detail—accuracy and consistency are critical.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High personal integrity and professionalism.
Additional Information
- This is a full-time, in-person role based in Santa Clara, CA.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and during peak seasons.
- Jewelry or luxury retail experience is a plus, but not required.
