The Registered Nurse works with residents who suffer from chronic mental illness and substance abuse problems and know signs of crisis, possible relapse, and stages of motivation and recovery. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates familiarity with 12-step approach, addiction/recovery models, including social rehab model in alcohol and substance abuse treatment field.
- Ability to give and accept corrective feedback with clients and staff.
- Must be able to adjust to the pacing of the job, knowing how to handle self professionally as a medical person in a crisis.
- Provides informative and thorough training to staff in handling medications
- Provide education to residents who are on medications, or those needing ongoing medical attention.
- Notifies case managers, Clinical staff, and residents about significant changes in residents medications or health. He/she will work with them occasionally in face-to-face and group meetings.
- Assists contract physician as needed with medical screening of new admissions
- Monitors, coordinates with case managers, schedules and documents that all new residents have documentation of Tb testing within agencys required timeframe
- Schedules all new residents for physical exam with contract physician if needed, within agency time frame, and maintains documentation
- Provides notification to case managers when clients do not show up for required Tb tests and/or physical exams.
- Provides documentation of completed TB and health exams to case managers for follow up and filing.
- Works with Family Health Centers health care case manager for referrals for vision and dental care needs
- In the absence of FHC case manager, provides referral assistance and advocacy for vision and dental needs to community health clinics or emergency rooms.
- Works with residents and Family Health Center staff for enrollment in Medi-Cal or other designated health insurance programs
- Maintains a roster of residents with limited activity, health restrictions and/or other modifications
- Updates Service Point for health data such as type of insurance, name of provider (if known), dates of Tb tests and physical exam.
- Enters nursing case notes for incidents; significant physical and mental health changes, and/or medication concerns
- Provides bed passes and time out passes per policy
- Oversees the Pharmacy Technician.
- Provides First Aid to residents and staff
- Completes Incident Reports as needed
- Provides In-service Training to staff as requested
- Coordinates with Family Health Center staff who provide education and HIV/Hep C testing on site
- Documents residents class attendance in Service Point
- Attends Manager Meetings
- Monitors employee time clock use daily, and other supervisory duties vacation approvals, performance reviews, interviewing, scheduling, task assignment, etc.
- Infection Control functions determine whether Isolation is needed based on diagnosis or symptoms; report trends to management; provide education on prevention and self-care to residents
- Inventorying, requesting and stocking designated supplies for residents health and hygiene, and for the med room
- Review applications for admission to program when requested, for medical appropriateness and accommodation needs
- Interface with outside allied health providers to coordinate pre-op, post-op or after care when residents are hospitalized
- Request or purchase DME, equipment or special medical supplies when needed by residents and not in stock
- Provide written dietary modifications/accommodations to Food Service staff
- Monitor and provide information to case managers and Program Director regarding residents use of prescribed Controlled Substances
- Provide orientation, guidance and feedback to staff who work in the med room
- Write, update and revise Policies and Procedures relating to Medications, and general health and wellness
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director
??????Qualifications:
- Current California License
- Must be able to fluently read, write and communicate in English
- Minimum 2 years paid experience as a pharmacy technician
- Must be able to stand a minimum of 2 hours, at one time, without sitting down
- Must have strong computer skills, Excel, Word, Microsoft Office
- Must be able to work with diverse population
- Must be able to adhere to strong boundaries
- Must be detailed oriented and accurate
- Must have excellent record keeping skills
- Must be able to work with constant interruptions
- Must be able to, comfortably, perform all aspects of job description and other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Negative TB test annually; bi-annually if Chest X-Ray test is required
- CPR/First Aid training bi-annually.

- Ability to bend and lift light objects
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
- Capable of hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Seeing to read reports and data
- Ability to speak English
- Must be able to work in a noisy, busy environment.
