Caregiver Job Description
A “Home Care Aide” also known as a “Caregiver” is a person that cares for elderly, convalescent, infirm and handicapped individuals. The home care aide (caregiver) is a member of the home care team who performs various personal care services as necessary to meet the client’s needs. The home care aide (caregiver) is responsible for observing clients, reporting these observations, and documenting observations and care performed.
All Home Care Aides must successfully register on the Home Care Aide Registry and complete screenings that include but are not limited to criminal background checks (Live Scan fingerprinting), driving record verification, TB Clearance, and initial training.
Providing personal care including:
- Baths
- Back rubs
- Oral hygiene
- Shampoos
- Changing bed linens
- Assisting clients with dressing and undressing
- Skin care to prevent breakouts
- Assisting the client with toileting activities
- Keeping client’s living area clean and orderly, as appropriate
- Planning and preparing nutritious meals.
- Assisting in feeding the client, if necessary.
- Transportation services including but not limited to driving to appointments & recreational activities, running errands, and grocery shopping.
- Assisting in ambulation and exercise according to the plan of care.
- Performing range of motion and other simple procedures as an extensional therapy service as ordered (with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency).
- Assisting client in the self-administration of medication.
- Doing client’s laundry, as appropriate.
- Meeting safety needs of clients and using equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, etc.).
- Adhering to the Organization’s documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct. Perform services in accordance to client’s plan of care.
- Perform services in accordance to client’s plan of care.
- Maintain a comfortable, healthy and safe environment.
- Identify emergency situations and responding appropriately.
- Preserve client and family privacy and confidentiality in accordance to HIPAA guidelines.
- Document services performed at each home visit.
- Reporting on client’s condition and significant changes.
- Submit weekly client visit summaries.
- Participate in training provided by company.
Qualifications:
- At least one year experience
- Must be at least 18 yrs of age
- Valid driver’s license
- Multi-lingual a plus (top priority will be given to caregivers who can speak Hindi, Punjabi or Gujrati and Mandarin Chinese)
- Must enjoy working with seniors
- Must be able to pass required background checks
- Must be registered on the HCA registry TB clearance is required every two years
- Certification (when necessary)
