Experienced Accountant Jobs in The Story Church Houston, TX

We’re looking for a CPA with solid accounting expertise, nonprofit experience, and a heart for mission-driven work. This is a hands-on role overseeing all core financial functions, from day-to-day transactions to strategic reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for board presentation
• Ensure full compliance with nonprofit GAAP standards
• Manage payroll processing and reporting, including retirement contributions and general ledger entries
• Oversee accounts payable and ensure proper documentation of expenses
• Record and manage donation and tuition revenue with appropriate recognition practices
• Track and report restricted funds, pledges, and capital campaign contributions
• Conduct account reconciliations (bank, credit card, merchant services, A/R, A/P, payroll)
• Maintain detailed and organized financial records: ledgers, journals, receipts, and invoices
• Audit and review purchase orders and vendor invoices
• Coordinate and support the annual financial audit
• Prepare and issue annual vendor 1099 forms
  
  

Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong nonprofit accounting background preferred
• Experience with fund accounting, donation revenue, and restricted fund tracking
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams
