Does over Qualification Affects Your career badly? Not Actually!

Worried about recruiters snubbing you only because you’re over qualified? It would be futile if we blame the recruiters for doing that, as the world itself is like that. Some like to add more sugar to their coffee and some would like to have it with fair sweetness, whereas few others will consume it without sugar. But the common point is no one fails to survive by tasting it in their own way.

The above ‘coffee concept’ also applies for all those graduates who are classified as over qualified. But the idea is to minimalize your skills with respect to the type of career you are looking for. One may ask, Does additional skills are absurd to gain? No. That is a general vague perception.

It would be better if I mention the quote of Scottish writer Richard Holloway here “Simplicity, clarity, singleness: These are the attributes that give our lives power and vividness and joy as they are also the marks of great art.” You might have the knowledge of art, technology, literature etc. But what is your soulful interest? That matters to achieve your big time career goals which would certainly be a part of your instincts.

If we are clever enough in what we actually want to make the best of our potential, then eventually, it will guide us through the path on how can we get it? There must be number of reasons why you are being not considered in terms of over qualification like additional degrees, too much of experience, your salary expectation etc. Let us put all those aside. Analyze these scenarios,

• What made you to quit the Job where you gained more experience? Or


• What is the thing that made you to go for higher education besides instilled you to acquire additional set of skills that is obviously more than enough for a living?

Contemplate yourself and arrive at a corollary. For instance,

• I decided to quit my job because, I’m no longer interested in that and started focusing on something else


• I went for higher education to master my skills in a particular field. These kinds of conclusion will direct you through the right path out of which you should make your living

Once done with the above, prepare an honest resume that should only contain your revered interests/skills. Send it to the concerned recruiter and you will be called probably, as honesty never lost its value. Have you heard any stories in which honesty failed to prove its value?
