I like busting myths and today I plan to take up on the most common myths that are associated with quitting a job. Jobs are a major part of your life; you spend more than 75% of your productive life at your workplace and if it is not going to make you happy, life becomes miserable no matter how fat a paycheck you get!

These myths can stop you from setting yourself free,

Winners never quit!

Well, this is the biggest myth of it all! Most people do not get it right on the very first try and when in your 20s, it is not wrong to explore what is in store for you. If something does not make you happy, then be bold and take the big step of moving onto greener pastures.

Quitting is easy!

Quitting is never the easy option! There are so many factors to consider and it takes time to take the leap of faith, especially if you do not have a job to back you up after quitting. Have a backup plan before quitting the job. If not, focus all your efforts on finding the right job right after you had quit the job.

It is selfish!

This is as mythical as it can get - Quitting leaves your work process high and dry. Your team will be left without a person to carry out your job responsibilities!

It is your life and a job is part of your life and it is up to you to take important decisions taking only that into consideration. Of course, you can be considerate to your ex-company and colleagues but that need not dictate the timeline of when you decide to hang up your boots for good.

At times, you might be in a highly competitive field and the workplace you are part of might not be the right one to help you express yourself and grow as a professional. It is then not selfish to leave the firm/team high and dry and look for more suitable venues to express your talent.

It is risky for your career!

Yes! Breaks in your career will look bad on your CV but so does staying for long periods of time in an underperforming job! The longer you stay, the riskier it becomes for your career so it is better to take a break and figure out life…
