Senior Accountant Job Description
Fast growing entrepreneurial company in consumer packaged goods is seeking a Senior Accountant for its North American operations currently head quartered in New Jersey. The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting function, leading a team of accounting professionals, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis. This role plays a key part in supporting strategic decision-making by providing clear financial insights, maintaining strong internal controls, leading process improvements and driving accountability throughout the organization.
In addition the Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations, income tax, liaising with external accountants, financial planning and analysis and risk management as well as playing a role in managing the banking relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
•Lead and manage the accounting team, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions both locally and with the transactions team in India
•Provide coaching, support, and performance management to ensure high levels of accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration within the team.
•Take ownership of the finance and accounting function and provide leadership and direction to the management team on all financial matters.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
•Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly internal financial statements on a legal entity basis in accordance with GAAP.
•Review and/or prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations and supporting sub-ledger reports for accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, and bank accounts.
•Prepare intercompany accounting entries and reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
•Oversee the maintenance of inventory item listings and the accuracy of all inventory records.
•Determine landed cost values for all shipments and ensure inventory and cost of goods sold are accounted for properly.
•Collaborate with operations to monitor inventory processes and valuations.
Compliance & External Reporting
•Review and assist with the preparation of all government filings including corporate income tax, and other regulatory reports.
•Support the year-end audit process by preparing required schedules and liaising with external auditors.
Management Reporting & Analysis
•Assist in the design and implementation of management reporting tools and KPIs.
•Prepare ad hoc financial and operational reports to support leadership and departmental decision-making.
Process Improvement & Systems Implementation
•Develop or improve existing processes and procedures including internal controls.
•Identify and drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting accuracy.
•Develop a robust budgeting and forecasting process.
•Develop product and channel profitability reports
•Drive accountability throughout the organization.
Vendor & Credit Support
•Oversee credit applications and respond to supplier and vendor requests for financial information as needed.
•Manage collections.
Qualifications
•CPA designation required.
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
•Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, including supervisory experience, including experience in entrepreneurial companies.
•Strong understanding of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting.
•Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
•Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across departments.
•Fluency in English (Fluency in Hindi would be an asset)
